About Spiro Arts and Silver Star
History of our property: Spiro Arts is uniquely situated on a historic mine site in the heart of Park City, UT. The newly restored buildings were originally constructed more than a century ago as a mine called the Spiro Tunnel, the site later became the location of what is arguably the world's most unique ski lift. In the 60's skiers rode three miles underground to a mine elevator which took them to the sunny skies and powder covered slopes above. Now in the third incarnation, the beautifully restored mine buildings provide studio space for Spiro's AIR program as well as headquarters for Park City's Sundance Film Festival.
Location: Located at 6,900 ft., Park City's richly diverse landscape is set among snow capped mountains, aspens, sub-alpine meadows as well as a myriad of lakes and mountain streams. In addition to its picturesque scenery, Park City is known as a hub of outdoor recreation activities including: winter sports, site seeing, hiking, trail running, mtn./road biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, hot air ballooning and home to the 2002 Winter Olympic Park.
Community: Spiro Arts is part of Silver Star Resort which includes a cafe, ski/bike rental shop, the Sundance Film Festival headquarters and many outdoor common areas. Park City has a free public transportation system, with a bus stop close to our studio building. Spiro Arts is less than a mile from Park City's historic Main Street, home to many art galleries, grocery stores, restaurants, yoga studios, golf courses, and three major ski resorts. Park City has a very lively arts scene, featuring a monthly gallery stroll, and multiple community & performing arts centers. In addition, Salt Lake International Airport is approximately 45 minutes from Spiro Arts.
